Wrestling
ScholarshipIn a paper. Cycle three of the PhD. Tag-team graphs shown to people who already cared about the wrestlers. They spotted missing Ric Flair, argued about stables versus factions, and some of them started asking who else might be doing this to data about them.
TeachingUsed in teaching. Those workshops were the teaching. Picture first, methods nearby. I am not running them as a programme now.
A childhood friend said Sean Waltman was doing a talk for £50 a ticket, I wanted a map of who had been in a stable with who, and Wikipedia had the members sitting there. Reddit fact-checked it. Later that became a whole cycle of the thesis: start with something a community already cares about, show them the picture, let the methods sit nearby.
I did not finish a complete map of wrestling. The useful bit was the method: start with something a community already cares about, show them the picture, keep the methods nearby. Other interests on this page have not been through that yet.
Already tied to
- Wikipedia. The stables came out of Wikipedia. Reddit then argued with the picture.
- Digital footprints. The graphs became cycle three: a community’s own data, shown to that community.
- Classroom games. The workshops were a room, a picture, and an argument.
