What's my Protected Characteristic?
A classroom spinner for the Equality Act. You spin a protected characteristic, get dealt a clinical scenario and a practitioner role, then talk about what that combination actually means in the room.
I wanted a way into Equality Act conversations that was not a slide with the nine characteristics on it. A spinning wheel is a bit silly, which helps. You spin, it lands on something like age or religion or disability, then you deal cards for a clinical situation and who you are in the scene, and you talk about it.
If you land on disability you go to a different page. I am not sure whether that was because the content was longer or because of how the wheel and the browser storage ended up fitting together. The HTML version is the one I would actually open in a classroom. There are React and Laravel repos from the same month; those are me learning, not better versions of the game.
The mashup
A fairground wheel, the Equality Act, and a clinical scene you then have to talk through.

Notes to self for media to add
- Hero: the wheel mid-spin, slices readable. Not a stock diversity graphic.
- Screenshots: wheel; popup ‘your characteristic is…’; scenario/practitioner cards; disability page if it is visually distinct.
- Short demo: spin → land → continue → deal cards → the discussion prompt. No students on camera.
- YouTube Short: “Spin the Equality Act.”
- Privacy: fine to show the game. Do not film a live session with identifiable staff or students.
